Lot 028: 1950 VINCENT COMET
MotorCycles, H&H Sales Limited (1st March 2007)
The Comet and Meteor singles had been a feature of the pre-war Series A range; however, due to a lack of production capacity and a healthy demand for the Series B and subsequent Series C twins, the Stevenage firm were unable to introduce complimentary 500cc models until 1949. The Meteor was typically produced in Series B form with Brampton forks and a slightly lower state of tune enabling it to undercut the Series C specified and quicker Comet by £25 in 1949. The new models drew heavily on the design of the twins with similar cycle parts, although their wheelbase was slightly shorter fitted with a power unit that clearly emanated from HRD Vincent , the space occupied by the rear cylinder of the twins being filled by an engine mounting/gearbox bracket on the singles. When tested in 1949 the Comet was praised for both its handling and performance, proving capable of 88mph on the poor quality petrol of the day. This unrestored example of the Comet, dating from 1950 appears to be largely complete and original and is offered with a registration document.
