Lot 040: 1963 AC GREYHOUND
Motor Car Sale, H&H Sales Limited (24th May 2006)
Introduced in 1959, the AC Greyhound boasted lines that were every bit as sleek as its namesake. Based around a stretched version of the same ladder-frame chassis that underpinned the Ace / Aceca, its sensuous aluminium coupe bodywork was supported by a multi-tubular steel superstructure. A true four-seater with decent luggage space, it further benefited from all-round independent coil-sprung suspension, a slick four-speed manual gearbox, disc / drum brakes and rack and pinion steering. Predominantly powered by the same Bristol OHV straight-six engine which had done so much to establish the AC name in competition circles, the model was credited with a 100mph plus top speed and brisk acceleration. Essentially hand built, the Greyhound was only in production for four years during which time just 83 are thought to have left the Thames Ditton factory.
Finished in red with grey upholstery, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in "all good" condition with regard to its chassis, bodywork, paintwork, electrical equipment and tyres (though, he considers the interior trim to be "excellent"). Reportedly treated to "new carpets" and a rebuild of its desirable 1971cc Bristol 100D2 specification engine, the four-seater has apparently enjoyed "low ownership". Said to be a "real driver's car", it rides on silver painted wire wheels and retains the original (transferable) number plate '666 AVY'. An extremely rare and pretty Grand Tourer, it is offered for sale with history file, MOT certificate valid until 28th September 2006 and historic class (free) road tax until 30th September 2006.
PLEASE NOTE: This vehicle has an MOT certificate until May 2007.
