Lot 36: Lotus Elan Sprint DHC

Produced in 1962, the Elan was to prove a worthy successor to the original Elite.  With its sure-footed handling and exceptional power to weight ratio, the Elan was a true delight for the enthusiastic driver.  Built upon a rigid central spine chassis, the Elan was to evolve through four series, remaining in production until 1973.  The most desirable variant was the Sprint, with the 'Big Valve' 126bhp engine, which gave a top speed in excess of 120mph.  The Elan still looks and feels right today, and is more than capable of showing a clean pair of heels to many current sports cars.Presenting a very rare opportunity for the Lotus enthusiast, the Elan Sprint offered here was first registered on 9th March 1973 and has remained in the hands of just one owner, during which time it has covered 28,780 miles at time of writing.  With the exception of cosmetic enhancement, it is reported to remain beautifully original and is finished in Lotus Calypso red with gold bumpers and black trim and hood.  Sparingly used, as the owner's business frequently took him overseas, the car has been well cared for over the years and with a promise of warm sunny days fast approaching, this Elan Sprint is sure to prove highly enjoyable.
