Lot 404: 1977 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II Four Door Saloon
Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Pre-War Motor Cars, Bonhams (17th June 2006)
The first of the Crewe factory cars to employ unitary construction, the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow and its sister car, the ‘T’ Type Bentley, represented a complete break with tradition, the new configuration enabling the stylists to present a significantly lower roofline than any previous model. No longer was the Rolls-Royce automatically perceived as a chauffeur-driven limousine but now more as a superior quality owner-driver car. The reduction in overall weight and the adoption of the V8, 90 degree, pushrod-operated, overhead valve engine of 6,230cc gave the new model impressive performance which was further enhanced by the introduction of the enlarged 6,750cc unit from 1970. The Silver Shadow II, introduced in 1977, featured further refinements including rack and pinion steering, modifications to the suspension and enhanced air-conditioning, enabling the Rolls-Royce marque to maintain its world-renowned position at the very top of the luxury car market.
This car has been owned and driven by just two R-R.E.C. members since 1988, during which time it has been used actively on many Club events. It has a service history with Rolls-Royce specialists up to 1990, (84,000 miles), but more recent records have been misplaced. The current mileage is approximately 108,000 miles and overall condition indicates regular maintenance. The car is finished in Georgian Silver livery with a black Everflex roof and the interior is finished in light blue leather with recent new over-rugs. Distinctively registered OSU 875, this Silver Shadow II is believed to be to original factory specification in all major respects and comes with original owner’s handbook, road fund licence, MoT to May 2007 and Swansea registration document.
