H&H Classic Auctions –Driving the Market in Europe
Formed in 1993, H&H Classic Auctions is Europe’s largest specialist classic car, motorcycle, bicycle and related automobilia auction house. The name reflects those of its founders – Simon Hope and Mark Hamilton - who are long time enthusiasts for all things mechanical and are just as likely to be seen persuading a veteran car to Brighton on a cold November morning as testing the mettle of an historic sports car on one of Europe’s top race tracks.
The company is based in Hatton, Cheshire and has established an enviable reputation for providing an unrivalled standard of service, whilst simultaneously charging the lowest commission rates in the industry. In recent times, it has markedly grown its automobilia sales under house specialist Matthew Kershaw and amassed an unequalled motorcycle department courtesy of the legendary George Beale. Bicycle business is the responsibility of Paul Adams.
The company’s total turnover for 2005 exceeded £10 million, with over 500 cars sold by auction and private treaty and new homes found for 3000 lots of motorcycles and automobilia.
Undoubtedly best known for its easy-flowing sales at the Grade II listed Pavilion Gardens, Buxton, H&H is now spreading its wings. Syon Park in London, Kempton Park and the stunning Centaur Complex at Cheltenham Racecourse are now regular venues for the car and automobilia sales and others will follow in due course – including ones in mainland Europe. Regular motorcycle and bicycle sales are being held at Shepton Mallet and the National Motorcycle
Museum, Birmingham.
Records tumble on an annual basis and recent car related ones include:
• New outright house sale total - £2.1 million
• New Buxton sale total - £1.2 million
• New world record for Lagonda M45 - £430,000
• New world record for a steel-bodied Jaguar E-Type - £295,625
• New European and UK record for an Auburn Speedster - £193,500
Said Managing Director and chief auctioneer Simon Hope, “From day one we have sought to provide our clients with the most honest, value-for-money service in the industry. This is reflected in our low rates, our speed of payment and the way we conduct our sales – our renowned ‘provisional sale’ approach is without doubt the most transparent in the profession. Above all, we are passionate about our business.”
