Ford 105E engine

Fords legendary Kent Engine first appeared in 1959 in the equally new Anglia 105E. The Kent engine was completely new and finally allowed Ford to break away from its old sidevalve unit which powered the previous 100E small car range.

The Anglia's engine featured overhead valves and oversqare dimensions with bore and stroke measurements of 80.9mm x 48.4mm. The new engine had a cubic capacity of 997cc and developed 39bhp which pushed the little Anglia along at respectable speeds for 1959!

In the face of strong competition from rivals such as the Mini and BMC 1100 range Ford soon added a more powerful "1200" Anglia to its range. The 1200 engine was enlarged version of the standard unit and was the first of many other engines to grow from the original 997cc design.
