Ford Cortina 113E/118E engine
|
When Ford launched its new family saloon car, the 1962 Cortina, it was no surprise to see that its successful Kent engine was the unit chosen to power the new car. The Cortina engine was basically another version of the Kent unit fist seen in the 1959 Anglia. The Crankshaft now had a longer stoke which gave a cubic capacity of 1198cc (1200), a 1500 unit was also offered. The original Cortina (MkI) was an instant success and gained a faster GT model which offered 84bhp and improved performance. Other variants included the legendary Lotus Cortina which used a twin-cam Lotus engine, however Ford continued to develop the Kent engine and it continued to power all subsequent Cortina models. |
