Introduced in 1955 as a luxury two-seater the Thunderbird gradually changed over the years with the open version only selling 7.5% of the total by 1966. The 1964-67 range was the last to offer a convertible version and was now a luxury car with no sportiness. The 1967 models had four doors, an engine tuned for refinement not performance and a bulky body. Sales declined. The 1972 models reversed this decline although hit by the oil crisis of 1974. Interest was kept alive with a number of special editions. This is a book of contemporary road and comparison tests, new model introductions, specification and technical data, history, drivers impressions. Models covered include: 390, Convertible, Landau, 4-door Sedan, 426, Cobra Jet, 429, 2-door Brougham, 2-door Hardtop, 460. 140 pages, 300 illus. SB.
