Following Bonhams' much publicized sale of the ‘barn-find Bugatti Type 57S in February, Bonhams & Butterfields is extremely proud to offer a beautifully restored example of the same model with an equally impressive pedigree.

The 1937 Type 57SC, number 532, is a stunning one-off Gangloff coupe distinctive for its low profile, compact cabin and long tapering tail. These highly sought after S models are rarer than their C brethren owing to their thoroughbred sporting configuration and, in this case, made even more unique by its bespoke coachbuilder.

The handmade motorcar was delivered new to a doctor in Sevres, France, and over the course of 70 years has resided in distinguished collections, including that of Michel Seydoux, before being acquired by the present owner 16 years ago. Ready to show or tour, the car has been exhibited at the prestigious Villa d'Este Concours d'Elegance in Italy where it won the Trofeo Girard-Perregaux in 2008 and run on the Mille Miglia Retrospective.

Representing the superior craftsmanship of the Molsheim works, this stunning sports car is a wonderful embodiment of Etorre Bugatti's legacy and the legend that is the Bugatti brand.

This singular Gangloff 57SC will be offered alongside many other stunning competition cars of importance, including the larger-than-life ex-works 1939 Auto Union D-Type Grand Prix racer campaigned by Hans Stuck and Rudolf Hasse, the ex-Ecurie Belgique 1948 Talbot-Lago 26C campaigned by Jacques Swaters, and the ex-works Mille Miglia 1952 Siata 208CS Berlinetta.

The sale of these historic cars and many others will take place at the annual Bonhams & Butterfields auction at the Quail Motorsports Gathering on August 14th at the Quail Lodge in Carmel Valley, California.
