Before the new 2005-2008 Dodge Magnum there was another Magnum produced by Dodge, a Magnum that allowed Richard Petty to race a Dodge in NASCAR for another
season. At a time when federal regulations had taken the fun out of driving the Magnum and its Muscle car image appealed to an aging buyers group. This original Magnum could carry the family and yet still be economical to drive. This Magnum was the Original Magnum, the "1978 & 1979 Dodge Magnum XE and GT". The introduction of the Magnum in 1977 created waiting lines at the local dealerships and with more then 80,000 Magnums made Chrysler had designed another classic.
