A Mk II Consul, Zephyr and Zodiac followed the success of the original "5 Star" Mk I range in 1956. As before, the Consul used a four cylinder engine and had a shorter overall length (due to the shorter engine!). The Consul Mk II engine had now grown to 1703cc and offered an improvement in performance, however vacuum wipers and a three speed gearbox were still standard.
As before with the Mk I range convertible versions of the Consul and Zephyr added a touch of glamour to the rest of the Ford family. The hood retained its three position arrangement and looked particularly elegant when fully lowered. The 1959 "Low Line" Consul improvements were carried over to the convertible and in 1962, as with the saloon, the model name changed to "Consul 375".
