Ferrari 250 GTE

Overview

Produced: 1960-1963, 950 produced.
Types:
Ferrari did not only make the sporting supercars in Maranello for which they are famous.  The company has also produced 2+2 tourers which could incorporate the "family" , but were far more suited to sporting use.  Various specialist car body makers have also created 2+2 cars on Ferrari chassis.  The first true Ferrari "family" car though was the 250 GTE.  The model was launched at the Paris show in 1960.  Paninfarina designed the body and with its wheelbase of 2,600 mm (102 in) and length of 4,700mm (185 in) there was room for a small family.  The V-12 engine was 2,953 cc and it produced 240 bhp at 7,000 rpm.  The type designation 250 refers to the engine capacity but relates to the size of just one of the twelve cylinders! Late in 1963, a 4-litre engine was installed to create the 330 America.
