The Mk II variant of the by now successful MGB arrived in 1967 and despite many changes and face-lifts would continue in production until 1980, still known as the "Mk II" version. To start with in 1967 the MGB Mk II introduced subtle changes ( which were a sign of the coming 70's styles ) such as all round synchromesh gears, an automatic option, front anti-roll bar, Rostyle wheels and revised trim. Later cars introduced more radical changes, particularly to the cars external appearance...
Matt black grilles came and went, more interior crash padding and in 1974 the most controversial change of all, rubber bumpers!. These new black moulded bumpers were designed to meet new US safety standards to allow the B to continue selling in this important market. The new cars also featured a raised ride height which did little for the cars roadholding or looks!
MGB production carried on until the British Leyland axe fell in 1980, to make way for the more modern Triumph TR7. Loyal MG fans immediately set about a campaign for the reinstatement of the marque which finally arrived in 1994 with the MGF. Today the MGB range is probably the most popular classic car and enjoys incredible specialist support all over the world.
