By the mid Sixties the Rootes group had firmly established its trend towards "Badge Engineering" new families of one basic design. In 1966 it announced its new Hillman Hunter/Singer Gazelle and Vogue range, again all sharing the same basic bodyshell and layout. These new "Arrow" models came with a choice of either 1496cc or 1725cc four cylinder engines, the 1725cc version even had a top speed of over 90mph!

The Hillman Minx formed the lower end of the new range with its base trim and 54bhp engine, next up was the plusher Hillman Hunter. Both Hillman models were available with a choice of either saloon or estate bodies. Mechanical specification consisted of a conventional rear wheel drive layout with MacPherson front suspension and front disc brakes.
